Collinsville’s varsity wrestling dual team traveled to the notorious Oologah Mustangs, to take on their school rivals in one last dual for the season. The Cards were coming off of momentum after major victories at the Tri-Dual, the Yukon Tournament, and their District Quad. The 220-pounder, Zach Morris, was finally back from injury and the Cards finally had fewer holes in the lineup.
The night started with an immediate 6 point lead for Collinsville after a forfeit at 106lbs, received by Garrett Strickland. Rocky Stevens, 113lbs, was the first to wrestle under the spotlight. Stevens only increased Collinsville’s lead with an early pin in the 1st period. Eli Benham, 120lbs, claimed the fastest pin of the night in just 41 seconds. Then, No. 5 in the nation at 126lbs, Caleb Tanner, received another forfeit for Collinsville.
Oologah still was not on the board as Connor Henson, 132lbs, claimed another victory by pin-fall at the last seconds of the 1st period. Xavear Cullors didn’t give the Mustangs any hope in his 138lbs match. Cullors also had a victory by pin-fall in the 1st period. Wrestling at 145lbs, Kolten Allphin managed to get several takedown points and tilts, winning by major decision 11-2.
Tony Connor at 152lbs, made his match look too easy. Pinning his opponent in 53 seconds, Connor pushed the Cardinals’ lead to 46-0. Blake Nation wrestled a tough match at 160lbs. Trailing 3-5 in the 1st period, the Mustangs thought they had a winning match, but Nation managed to turn the tables on his opponent. Nation nearly won by tech-fall, but took victory by major decision with a score of 17-6.
Hayden Knight was able to claim a victory at 170lbs, pinning his opponent early in the 2nd period. Oologah finally got on the scoreboard, receiving two forfeits at 182lbs and 195lbs. Zach Morris then took the mat for Collinsville at 220lbs. The Freshman wrestler, Morris, took on a Senior from Oologah. Morris had a battle all three periods and came out with a victory by decision with a score of 4-3.
Collinsville had a forfeit at HWT, but it didn’t bring the Mustangs any joy. Every Cardinal wrestler claimed victory against the Mustangs. The final score had the Cards on top, 59-18. The Cards are now on a clear path to 5A Dual State with a massive amount of momentum behind them.
