Softball Regionals

The Collinsville Cardinals softball team took on Regionals on October 6 in Shawnee. The Lady Cards were predicted to achieve success in the series on Friday.

They faced Skiatook, their rival, right off the bat. Collinsville was the visiting team in this match-up. Meghan Low, the team’s only senior, was the first to score in the game. Hitting a single to get on and later scoring on a passed ball, Low gave the lead to Collinsville in the first inning. The score remained 1-0 until Elizabeth Aman hit a 3-run homer in the 3rd, scoring both Makayla Davis and Fallin Sexton. Skiatook tried making a comeback, but Collinsville’s bats were too hot in this game.

After the Cards defeated Skiatook with a 6-3 final score, they were up to play Shawnee later that night. The Lady Cards struggled with their offense throughout their game against Shawnee. But after Elizabeth Aman came into to pitch, Shawnee struggled to string hits together after the 3rd inning. Fallin Sexton was the only one to score. It gave the Lady Cards momentum, but being so late in the game, there was not enough time left for a comeback. Shawnee beat the varsity team 7-1.

Their loss against Shawnee loss brought on another matchup between Collinsville and Skiatook the next day. In the top of the first, Meghan Low hit a double and scored after a triple by Fallin Sexton. Skiatook answered the Cards by scoring twice in the bottom of the inning. The Bulldogs continued to press their lead into the next few innings. Collinsville, once again, was on a march to a comeback. The girls scored three more runs before the final, but they soon ran out of opportunities. Collinsville barely lost to their rivals, with a final score of 4-6.

The Lady Cards achieved a lot of success throughout their 2017 season. Although it was considered a “building year” with only one senior, they showed potential for future seasons to come. Although the season ended in a loss from their rivals, the hard work and success does not end here. There is much more to come from the Lady Cards Softball program.
