Seth Boomer: Story By Devyn Lyon
Collinsville’s varsity QB and team captain, Seth Boomer, leads the way through faith on and off the field. The high-school senior exemplifies the definition of being a leader as he sets an outstanding example for his teammates and peers.
Growing up in the small town of Collinsville, OK, Seth Boomer lived with big dreams and aspirations of something bigger. He grew up living with his two parents, Kurt and Ashley Boomer, and younger brother, Grayson Boomer. The Boomer family is well known. Seth’s parents both hold high positions in the Collinsville public schools teaching staff. His sophomore brother, Grayson Boomer (#18), also competes on the field as the varsity team’s tight-end and defensive-end.
The 6’3’, 185lbs QB ranks 1st in passing yards out of all 5A school quarter-backs so far this year. In the past 3 games this season, Boomer has completed 38 of 58 passes accumulating to a total of 559 passing yards. Throwing 5 for touchdown passes, Boomer is already gaining on his stats from the previous year. He shows potential in running the ball as he has rushed for a total 56yrds this season.
Seth Boomer, bearing the #12 jersey, has already led the Cardinals to 2 major victories. Defeating East Central 47-0 and Catoosa 33-0, Boomer keeps the Cardinals hungry for victory and striving to be better competitors and students as well. “We hope as a team this year to finish what we didn’t last year,” Seth Boomer stated. “Be the team to finally get that gold ball.” To achieve the state championship goal, Boomer and Head Coach, Kevin Jones, work together with the team every day to constantly improve and find their competitive edge. The pro-style QB has faith in the Cardinals. “I plan on becoming a better leader every week and one day at a time, we will get there.” He credits the players and the coaching staff for much of his success in football.
Not only a leader on the field, but in the classroom as well. He received an offer to Tulsa University in April of 2016 and then verbally committed there in late May. He also recently received an offer from Stetson University in Florida. His current plans are competing on the field as a Tulsa Hurricane and also majoring in business and management. After meeting the coaching staff and visiting the TU campus, Boomer found the university as the “best fit” for himself. Familiarizing himself with the team and coaches, he attended several spring practices and home games.
“If he is for us, who can be against us?” reads Boomer’s twitter page, as he exhibits his strong faith in God. On and off the field, the captain believes in his team, his family, and his God. He strives to display amazing leadership and hopes to be a figure many young cardinals can look-up to and see that dreams do come true.
Seth Boomer suits up for the Cardinals this week to take the field against Bishop Kelly. He hopes to finish his final year with Collinsville’s first high-school state championship. It will be his senior year dressing in the red and Columbia blue before Cardinal fans will see him, achieving his dreams, in the blue and gold jerseys of the Tulsa Hurricanes. As a high-school student, Seth Boomer shows just how great a Collinsville Cardinal can be.
