National Merit Scholarship Semi-finalists

The National Merit Scholarship Program was founded in 1955 “to identify and honor scholastically talented American youth.”

In order to qualify as a Semifinalist, a high-school-age student, before their senior year, must take the PSAT and score among top-ranking students in their state.

This past week, the National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced the Semifinalists for the scholarships they will offer this coming spring. 80 of the near 16,000 Semifinalists are from the Northeast Oklahoma area. Two of those 80 are from right here in Collinsville. Daniel Wilson and Olivia Duncan have officially been announced as Semifinalists.

“It was the longest time of my life,” described Duncan who waited all Summer to found out if she qualified as a Semifinalist. Her patience paid off, and she hopes to be selected as a Finalist saying: “that would be awesome.”

Likewise, Wilson is extremely thankful for the outcome: “I’m really glad to have this opportunity.”
