On January 16th, the Collinsville boys basketball team squared off against the Claremore Zebras for their third home game of the season. The Cardinals, coming off a dominating performance versus highway 20 rival, Skiatook, looked to gain some momentum heading towards the second half of the schedule.

The Cardinals started off the 1st quarter slowly and soon found themselves down by the end of the quarter. The Cardinals continued to trade shots with the Zebras, but finished the 2nd quarter down 26-21. After a halftime performance of various songs in the stands by the CHS Band, the Cardinals returned to court for the 3rd quarter and put up 19 points. They still trailed, however, 50-40 by the end of the quarter. With heads still high, Collinsville proceeded to climb back into the game with two 3pt shots from Trevon Hodges and some other Cardinal players scoring in the paint. The Cardinals soon found themselves down 54-51 with three minutes left, but the comeback fell short with a pair of contested shots made by the Zebras. The final score of the contest was 61-56 in favor of Claremore.

Austin Marler(Sr.), ended the night with 24 points and 5 3-pointers while Ethan Cole(So.), added 12 points and Trevon Hodges(Jr.) added 7 while going ⅔ from beyond the arc.

The Cardinals now stand at 5-5 on the season and will look to bounce back this week at the Metro Christian tournament starting Thursday, January 28th.
